Let us start with the tape, because the tape is the whole letter. *In September 2023 the Biden administration agreed to unfreeze $6 billion of Iranian oil money — frozen in South Korea, moved to Qatar, walled off for food and medicine — in exchange for five Americans held in Iran. You did not call it a prisoner deal. You called it a ransom.* Your words, on Truth Social, capital letters and all: "We also gave them 6 BILLION DOLLARS! How much of a kickback does Crooked Joe Biden get? Does anyone realize how much money 6 Billion Dollars is?" *And later, in prepared remarks, you listed it among the causes of war itself — "the United States giving Iran $6 billion dollars ransom." You were not whispering. You wanted the whole country to feel how big six billion was.*

Now here is this week. *On June 5, in an exclusive interview from Tehran, General Mohsen Rezaei — senior military adviser to Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei, one of the few men in his inner circle — told CNN's Fred Pleitgen that a peace deal with your administration "hinges on" one thing.* The release of $24 billion in frozen Iranian assets. *He warned that the United States would "enter into a dark corridor" if the fighting resumes. He said you and the Supreme Leader will not meet. But the number — the one he put on camera, the precondition he laid at your feet — was twenty-four billion dollars.* Twenty-four. Not six. *Four times the sum you could not believe Biden handed over.
