Dear Trump — You Are a Disgrace

Yesterday you posted an AI-generated picture of yourself in a general's uniform, standing between Patton and MacArthur, wearing four stars and something that looks like the Medal of Honor. You got five draft deferments. One of them was for bone spurs in your heels. In the picture you gave yourself four stars and gave MacArthur two. He wore five. There were only ever five men in American history who did.

Dear Trump,

You have crossed more lines in this office than fit on one page. You have insulted people who never touched you. You have said things that were not true and gone on saying them after you knew. You spurred a revolt. You have split this country wider than I have seen it in fifty-two years. Thirty-four percent of Americans approve of the job you are doing — the same number you were sitting on the week after January 6th.

Iran's regime is still standing. Iran controls the Strait of Hormuz. Twenty million barrels a day used to move through that water freely, and now they move when Tehran says they move.

And through every bit of that, I would never have disrespected my president. Lowercase, on purpose. The office keeps its capital letter. You have not earned it back yet.

But yesterday was too much.

You posted this.

The image posted to Truth Social on August 4, 2026. It is AI-generated — Snopes confirmed both that it is fake and that he posted it. He is wearing four stars and a decoration resembling the Medal of Honor. Patton, on his right, was a four-star general. MacArthur, on his left, was one of only five men in American history to wear five. In this picture each of them is given two.

You never served a day. You took five deferments, and one of them was for bone spurs in your heels — a con at twenty-two, and you have run some version of it every year since. That is your business, and the country has known it about you for a decade.

This is different. In that picture you handed yourself four stars and a decoration that looks like the Medal of Honor — which this country gives for conspicuous gallantry, in combat, above and beyond the call of duty, and gives to a great many men only after they are already dead. Then you stood yourself between two of the finest soldiers this nation ever produced and quietly demoted them both. Patton wore four. MacArthur wore five, one of five men who ever did. You gave them two apiece, so that you would be the ranking officer in your own painting.

That is a slap in the face to every person who earned the uniform you were playing dress-up in, and to every family that got one folded and handed to them. And you did it this week — with American servicemembers in the line of fire in that strait right now, taking the actual risk that the machine drew onto your chest for free.

Facts are facts. Yours add up to one thing. You are a disgrace to this country and to the seat in which you sit.
